We all have been shaken and disturbed of the news of the last few days of the immigration policies at our borders, and the unspeakable impact on children and families. We take comfort in the fact that our extended family of non-profit organizations specializing in the work of children, refugees, immigrants, mental health, and foster care in New York are working hard to support. In the meantime, we stand in solidarity with our community and will continue working with native and foreign born women to achieve economic independence through food. When it feels like things are falling apart, we seek refuge in each other. Last night, our bakery team gathered together for a meal in Jessamyn’s backyard. A powerful reminder that the fabric of our organization, like our country, is made stronger and more beautiful because of our differences, not in spite of them.
